Overview
This project looks at the issues surrounding how and why we interact with new technologies. It does not simply focus on how we try to express ourselves through different media, but also attempts to question the often hidden means that these media change how we perceive the world around us.
I hope to achieve this through showing the participant that you must actively engage to really have an effect on your environment. That if you choose to remain static, your real self will eventually be replaced by what outside forces wish you to become.
Actually functioning as the antithesis of an interactive work, this take on the Transforming Mirrors theme will only echo the user whilst they remain in motion. Once the participant becomes inert, this is the trigger for replacing their image with external media.
This work poses several questions to the user:
- Does the way we present ourselves through technology faithfully represent who we are?
- Are media filters controlling the way we are able to express ourselves with technology?
- Is the information we respond to in the first place actually misleading us?
